Board Of Directors


  • Doug Esmond

    Chair
    Mr. Esmond currently serves as the Chair of the Board and serves on the Executive Compensation Committee. In the past, he has served as the Chair of the Supervisory Committee for First Service Credit Union. He has also served on the Loan Committee and was the Chair of the Board for legacy Right Choice Credit Union. He is a Tax Director for EOG Resources, Inc., and prior to that, he worked for KBR/Halliburton for 13 years. Doug has been a member of the credit union since 1993. He is the proud parent of two grown children and two grandchildren. He enjoys golf, working out, running, hunting, motorcycling, and snow skiing. He has a BBA in Accounting from Texas State University (formerly Southwest Texas State University) and is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the State of Texas.

  • Gary Daugherty

    Vice Chair
    Mr. Daugherty currently serves as the Vice Chair of the Board and has been a credit union member for more than 40 years. He spent most of his career with Shell Oil Company in management and leadership positions and retired from IBM as an Associate Partner in 2014. Soon after, he joined the People’s Trust Advisory Council as a volunteer. He served as Chair of the Supervisory Committee before being elected to the Board in 2015. Mr. Daugherty has served on the CEO Assessment and Compensation Committee, Community Outreach Committee, and Volunteer Recruitment Committee, and has chaired three ad-hoc committees. He served as Board Vice Chair and Board Chair for People’s Trust. He has earned several CUNA certifications and attended additional CUES and CUNA sponsored courses and conferences to enhance his ability to serve First Service and the credit union movement. Mr. Daugherty has a BBA in Finance from Texas Christian University.

  • Tom Bullard

    Secretary
    Mr. Bullard has been a credit union member for nearly 30 years and currently serves as Secretary of the Board. He served on the Advisory Committee for two years before joining as a full-time director. Both in his volunteer roles at the credit union and at SNC-Lavalin, Mr. Bullard is committed to furthering excellent member service and an engaged culture through teamwork, creativity, and attention to detail. As Vice President for SNC-Lavalin’s Oil & Gas Sector, Mr. Bullard is responsible for all operations in the United States of America, Latin America, and the Caribbean regions. He joined the SNC-Lavalin team in 2014 after spending 23 years with KBR. Mr. Bullard holds a Bachelors’ Degree in Business Management from Texas A&M University and spent eight years working on foreign assignments. Mr. Bullard has been married for over 20 years, and he and his wife have three children together.

  • Ron Booth

    Treasurer
    Mr. Booth currently serves as Treasurer and previously served as a Board Director. He began volunteering for People’s Trust (then Shell Employees Federal Credit Union) in 2001 on the Financial Resources Board of Directors. He spent five years on the People’s Trust Board prior to the First Service merger, including a year as Vice Chair. He also chaired both the CEO Assessment and Compensation Committee and the Community Outreach Committee, and continued as Director/Treasurer for People’s Trust Financial Resources. Mr. Booth was the Director of Finance for Cross Roads Community Church. He retired from Shell Oil after 25 years working in various management roles in both the Upstream and Downstream businesses. Prior to Shell, Mr. Booth spent 10 years in the U.S. Military in the Air Force and the Air National Guard. He holds an MBA with emphasis in Finance from Houston Baptist University and a BBA with emphasis in Computer Information Systems from National University, San Diego.

  • David Itz

    Director
    Mr. Itz currently serves on the Board of Directors of First Service Credit Union and is Chair of the Asset and Liability Committee. Over the years, he has served as the Chair of the Board, on the Supervisory Committee, and on the Executive Compensation Committee. Mr. Itz has over 40 years of experience in the energy industry and is now retired. A native of San Antonio, he earned his bachelor’s in Geology and Economics from Rice University and then held professional and management positions with El Paso Natural Gas, Texas Utilities, Houston Industries (now CenterPoint Energy and NRG), and Calpine Corporation. Mr. Itz still keeps a hand in business serving as Member/Manager of Energetic Properties, LLC. Mr. Itz’s spare time is spent serving on nonprofit boards, and he is currently Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the Houston Community College Foundation and a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board for the School of Social Sciences at Rice University.

  • Dominique Marshall Varner

    Director
    Ms. Varner, a member of the credit union’s Supervisory Committee, was elected to the First Service Board of Directors in 2021. Professionally, she is a partner with Hughes Watters Askanase, LLP., where she works closely with credit unions, mortgage servicing companies, and other nonbank lenders. Ms. Varner has been the Co-Managing Partner of the firm’s Default Servicing Division for over 15 years, and she has garnered extensive experience with lending and finance through her current role. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in International Business and Finance from UT – Austin in 1990, and she completed her Juris Doctorate program at the South Texas College of Law in 1994. Ms. Varner was recognized by the State Bar of Texas the same year and has been Board Certified in Consumer Bankruptcy Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 2006.

  • Janet Hill

    Director
    Ms. Hill currently serves as a Board Director, and she has served as Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary of the Board and as Chair of the Executive Compensation Committee and other committees since 2001. Ms. Hill served in similar capacities with Legacy Right Choice Credit Union. As a career employee with KBR, she had responsibilities for a variety of positions in the Procurement, Human Resources, and Dispute Resolution Departments. Her professional memberships include the Society for Human Resource Management and International Ombudsman Association. Now retired, she loves to travel and spend time with family and her two Cocker Spaniels at the lake.

  • Kourtney Calhoun

    Director
    Ms. Calhoun currently serves as a Board Director and as the Supervisory Chair of the Supervisory Committee for First Service Credit Union. She has previously served as the Chair of the Board, and as the Vice Chair and Chair of the Executive Compensation Committee. She was previously Chair of the Board of El Paso Corporation Federal Credit Union, a 2013 merger partner with First Service Credit Union. Ms. Calhoun obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Houston Baptist University majoring in Accounting and Political Science. She has served in management positions with Tenneco, El Paso Corporation, and presently with Kinder Morgan, with a variety of responsibilities in Accounting, Information Technology, Pipeline Commercial Operations, and as Director - Records/Information Governance. Ms. Calhoun enjoys spending time with her family, especially her twin granddaughters and grandson who live in Austin.

  • Mohan Dinanath

    Director
    Mr. Dinanath held several volunteer positions with People’s Trust prior to the merger with First Service and currently serves as Board Director. He began on the Supervisory Committee in 1998 when People’s Trust was Shell Employees Federal Credit Union and was appointed as a Director-In-Training in 2000. He was elected Board Director in 2001. He has served on numerous committees, including Asset and Liability Management, Board Development and Governance, CEO Assessment and Compensation, and Volunteer Recruitment. He was also the Chair of the People’s Trust Foundation Board for over three years and currently serves on its Board. Mr. Dinanath holds a Bachelor of Science in Business and an MBA from LeTourneau University. He is a Certified Credit Union Volunteer and completed the CUNA required Board Financial Literacy Certificate as well as courses from CUNA Center for Professional Development. He retired from Shell Global Solutions in 2016 after 34 years of service.

  • Paul Love

    Director
    Mr. Love currently serves on the Asset and Liability Committee and on the Information Technology Committee for First Service Credit Union. He served on the legacy First Service Credit Union Board since 1984 and held past positions there as the Chair and Vice Chair of the Board. Prior to his retirement in 2013, Mr. Love was the Director of Electronic Customer Services for Kinder Morgan. He is now active in the Westbury Baptist Church, where he has served on numerous financial and administrative committees.

  • Paul SoRelle

    Director
    Mr. SoRelle has been a credit union volunteer for more than 40 years and currently serves on the Board of Directors. He previously served as Board Chair of the Houston Chronicle Employees Federal Credit Union during its merger with People’s Trust before being appointed by the People’s Trust Board as an Associate Director in 2014 and Director in 2016. Mr. SoRelle worked at the Houston Chronicle for 34 years and then The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center for 10 years before retiring in 2016. Mr. SoRelle has an MBA from the University of Houston and a Bachelor of Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin. Mr. SoRelle serves on the board of Houston Bike Share, the operators of the Houston BCycle bike share system. Previously he served on the Board of Examiners for the Baldrige National Quality Award and the Texas Award for Performance Excellence.

  • Wayne Taylor

    Director
    Mr. Taylor currently serves on the Board of Directors and has been an active Director for almost all of his over 40 years of credit union membership. He has served on most of the credit union’s standing committees at some time or another and has served three terms as Chair of the Board. He spent 25 years in the Credit Department with Brown & Root and then managing American Express Travel Card Program with ESG/Halliburton. His years of credit-oriented service have put him in good stead to monitor the finances of the credit union during several tumultuous financial periods since the 1980s. Now retired, Wayne devotes his time to gardening, playing senior softball, and volunteering with several charities and his church.

Executive Leadership Team

  • Dave Bleazard

    President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

    Dave Bleazard is President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of First Service Credit Union. He joined the company in 2004 to head a three-branch organization with assets of less than $100 million. Under his leadership, First Service has grown into a full-service financial institution with assets over $1.3 billion.

    As a leader in the credit union movement, Mr. Bleazard has directed the growth and diversification of First Service which currently represents over 400 sponsoring companies and organizations with over 100,000 active members. Mr. Bleazard was the driving force behind First Service’s state-of-the-art online membership and loan applications. A visionary with hands-on experience in day-to-day operations, Mr. Bleazard exemplifies his organization’s motto of “Outstanding Service” for First Service members.

    Prior to joining First Service, Mr. Bleazard spent nine years at Members Choice Credit Union and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Brigham Young University in 1992. Bleazard is the father to six children and has been married to his wife, Suzanne, for 28 years.

  • Jason Swatsenbarg

    Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

    Jason Swatsenbarg is the Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of First Service Credit Union. As CFO, he oversees Accounting, IT, Data Operations, and Commercial Services ensuring that they accomplish the goals of the credit union. Originally joining First Service Credit Union in 2022 as Controller, Mr. Swatsenbarg brings with him 26 years of experience from accounting and investment industries ranging from financial statement audits to real estate private equity and family offices prior to joining First Service. 

    Mr. Swatsenbarg earned his bachelor’s degree and a master's degree in accounting from Brigham Young University and is a certified public accountant. In his free time, Mr. Swatsenbarg enjoys playing golf, exercising, reading, watching movies, volunteering at his church, and spending time with his family.

  • Nolan Waltman

    Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer (COO)

    Nolan Waltman is the Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer (COO) at First Service Credit Union. As COO, he oversees the contact center, marketing department, lending, collections, and support services while focusing on the company’s strategic growth objectives through back-end development. He joined the company in 2008 and has held numerous managerial positions, including branch manager, vice president of branch operations, and vice president of sales, and Chief Growth Officer before taking on his current position of COO.   

    Mr. Waltman is currently pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Business Management and will soon begin his journey with the Southwest CUNA Management School. He serves on the board for the You First Foundation and is a board member for eCU Technology. He enjoys live music, going to the lake, and watching his children compete in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

  • Teri Edge

    Executive Vice President & Chief Growth Officer (CGO)

    Teri Edge is the Executive Vice President & Chief Growth Officer (CGO) at First Service Credit Union. She has 23 years of financial services management experience, with 13 of those years within the credit union industry in positions including vice president, chief member experience officer, assistant vice president, and director of remote delivery services.

    Ms. Edge has previously worked for People’s Trust Federal Credit Union, Texas Bay Credit Union, and Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union. She has a passion for developing innovative programs, enhancing member experiences, and driving sales, which helps First Service provide its members with a full range of competitive financial products and personalized service.

  • Jon Shurtz

    Executive Vice President & In-House Counsel

    Jon Shurtz is the Executive Vice President & In-House Counsel for First Service Credit Union. He joined First Service in 2018 and has 16+ years of legal, business, and project management experience, including one of the world’s largest financial services companies, a privately held construction firm, and a Fortune 150 energy corporation. Jon oversees the legal aspects of the credit union, as well the Workforce Operations, Facilities, and Commercial Lending Departments.

    He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from Brigham Young University and a Juris Doctor degree from Oklahoma City University. He is admitted to practice law in Texas and Florida. Jon and his wife, Meghan, have 7 children – 3 boys and 4 girls.

    A passionate sports fan, particularly high school and college football as well as March Madness, Jon enjoys cheering for his teams, fishing, volunteering at his church, spending time with his family, and enjoying good food.
